Apparently, Leaf was to be included in the first Pokemon games, but they couldn't do that becaue of that would be too much data for te gameboys (or as I call them, GameGIRLS) of that day to handle.

AMAZING really, when you think of how much technology has evolved.

I dunno really. I don't know much about technology in regards to how it works and how games are programmed. You have a fair point though, but a choice of two player characters is a lot of data. I personally don't see why they couldn't have had one game for girls (with Leaf) and one game for boys (with Red). When Gold and Silver were released they were going to include a girl player character but there was not enough room on the game for the data of both this and the day/night time feature. Due to the re-design of game cartridges though, they were able to fix this for Crystal. When you think about it though, all of these things have paved the way for new games and features, for example the time feature on Gold, Silver and Crystal probably paved the way for games to have real time and NOT just Pokemon games either.
And the Pikachu walking round in Yellow, well look at the Pokemon following you round on HeartGold and SoulSilver. One of my favourite things about the game I must say.

Still, I do agree with you. And the lack of inclusion of a female character for the early games always struck me as sexist. I feel a bit better about it now though as I know that it was just a matter of programming and the Japanese really do respect their girls.

yeah, there's proof in the manga; along with red and blue (green in japan), there was the girl character, green (blue in japan). if rbgy had a girl player, it would've been based off her.
